Marywood University Women's Soccer Wins ECAC South Championship
Aston., PA - Entering as the number sixth seed, Marywood University (15-4-3) reeled off three wins on the road to capture the 2010 ECAC South Region Championship. In the first round the Pacers traveled to Erie and defeated Penn-State Behrend 1-0 in overtime. In the semi-finals, playing in Frostburg, Maryland, Marywood defeated the No. 2 seeded Grove City College 1-0 to advance to the finals against No. 1 seeded Frostburg State University.
The game ended in a scoreless 0-0 tie after regulation and two overtime periods as the Pacers battled top-seeded and host Frostburg State for the title. With senior goalkeeper Meghan Coyle notching two saves in the shootout and Taylor Simmons, Olivia Habicht, Lacey Habicht and Jenn Slesinski all making their shots, the Pacers earned the title 4-1 on penalty kicks. Senior goalkeeper Coyle secured her 14th shutout on the year and senior defender Shannon Hresko was named the Tournament MVP. This marks the first ECAC title for the Marywood women's soccer team as it is Marywood's first year as an ECAC member.
