Cabrini's Chenot enjoys memorable Senior Day
RADNOR, Pa.: At all levels across the country, Senior Day marks a final celebration for student-athletes who, in many cases, are preparing to play the final home game of their athletic careers. It is often a memorable and sentimental occasion for athletes, coaches, and fans alike, and Cabrini College's women's soccer Senior Day last Saturday afternoon was no different.
Cabrini’s senior class had plenty of memories to celebrate, as the Cavaliers have been one of the top teams in the Colonial States Athletic Conference over the past four years, winning 39 games and two CSAC championships, and making two appearances in the NCAA Division-III National Tournament.
One member of the Cavaliers’ senior class has been with the team throughout its four-year journey, but had yet to set foot on the field during her collegiate career.
Molly Chenot saw her career end before it even started, due to a series of concussions suffered during her high school career. Chenot, whose story was documented
on Rock Center with Brian William on NBC, kept active with Cabrini’s soccer squad, serving as a student assistant coach and team co-captain under head coach
Ken Prothero.
On the aforementioned Senior Day, the Cavaliers were set to wrap up the regular season against conference foe Cedar Crest College. Prior to the game, Cedar Crest coach
Nicole Pietrobon and her players performed an extraordinary act of sportsmanship, as it was decided that Chenot would get her first career start, and would
score a goal in the game’s opening seconds. In turn, Cabrini would concede a goal to Cedar Crest, with the game starting with the scored tied 1-1.
“I am extremely thankful for the extraordinary sportsmanship of Cedar Crest, Coach Pietrobon, and everyone that helped make this memorable day possible,” said Prothero.
The fact that Cabrini won 4-1, clinching the #2 seed in the CSAC playoffs, may not always be remembered, but the act of sportsmanship from Cedar Crest College, and Molly Chenot’s contributions to Cabrini College, most certainly will be.
