CSAC participants split in ECAC semifinals

The Colonial States Athletic Conference saw its teams go 1-1 in the semifinal round of the ECAC South men's soccer and volleyball championship tournament.

In Erie, Pa., the seventh-seeded Marywood University men's soccer team defeated third seed Lebanon Valley College 2-1, to advance to Sunday's ECAC championship match.  2012 CSAC Player of the Year Ryan Jones gave the Pacers an early 1-0 lead, with a goal off of a direct kick in the eighth minute.  With seven minutes left in the first half, Lebanon Valley would score to send the game into the intermission tied at 1-1.

After 15 minutes of scoreless action to open the second half, Marywood's Jamie Mangini's fourth goal of the season put the Pacers ahead 2-1.  The goal proved to be the game-winner, as the Pacers made the one-goal lead stand for the final 30 minutes to punch their ticket into Sunday's ECAC championship match.

Marywood (12-6-3) will face #5 seed Alvernia (13-7-3) in Sunday's championship match at 1:00pm.  Alvernia defeated #1 seed, and tournament host Penn State-Behrend, in Saturday's other semifinal match.

In the ECAC South volleyball semifinals, #4 seed Cabrini College saw its season end with a 3-0 defeat (25-15, 25-11, 26-24)  to top-seed and host Bethany College (W.Va.) on Saturday morning.  The Cavaliers (20-10) were led by  Danielle Carrozza, who posted nine kills and 11 digs.  Sophia Sokolovich led Cabrini with 19 digs, while Cassidy Koenig dished out 21 assists.  Bethany improved to 30-8 with the win, and eventually topped Moravian 3-0 to capture the ECAC South championship.
