Cabrini named as favorite in Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll
ASTON, Pa. – The Cabrini University men’s soccer team was the unanimous pick to win the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) title, according to the 2016 preseason coaches’ poll released on Thursday morning.
The Cavaliers received all ten first-place votes for a total of 100 points. Cabrini finished 15-3-3 last season, en route to winning the CSAC championship.
"It's an honor to be recognized as preseason favorite,” said Cabrini head coach Rob Dallas. “The CSAC is growing more competitive each year, so we know there is a lot of hard work ahead of us this season.”
Neumann University was second with a total of 75 points, followed by Marywood University in third at 74 points while Centenary University and Immaculata University tied for fourth with 72 points.
Keystone College was sixth at 51 points, with Gwynedd Mercy University in seventh at 41 points and Cairn University eighth at 33 points. Rosemont College (19 points) and Clarks Summit University (13 points) rounded out the poll.
Eight of the ten schools in the conference hit the pitch for the first time on Thursday, September 1, with the other two kicking things off on Saturday, September 3.
The six-team conference championship tournament starts on Tuesday, November 1, with matches at the third and fourth seeds, with the winners playing at the first and second seed on Thursday, November 3.
The title match is set for Saturday, November 5, at the highest remaining seed. The winner of that match receives the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
“Our student athletes have been working extremely hard this off season and we are excited to get things started,” added Dallas.
