CSAC Announces 2016-17 Men's Basketball End of Season Awards
ASTON, Pa. – The Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) has announced its 2016-17 men’s basketball end of season awards, as voted upon by the league’s ten head coaches. These awards include Player, Defensive and Rookie of the Year as well as Coach of the Year.
Cabrini University junior forward
Tyheim Monroe (Philadelphia, Pa./Olney Charter) was the favorite among the coaches for the 2016-17 CSAC Player of the Year. Monroe is the fourth player from Cabrini to win this honor, and the first since Aaron Walton-Moss won three straight from 2012-13 to 2014-15. Monroe averages 22 points and 16 rebounds per game, and just crossed the 1,000 rebound mark in his career. He has started and played in all 25 games this season, and is shooting 51.9 percent from the field. He has hit double figures in rebounds in all but one game this season. He is a repeat first-team selection.
Neumann University senior forward
Darian Barnes (Yeadon, Pa./Penn Wood) was the coaches’ pick as the first Defensive Player of the Year in conference history. Barnes, a repeat Honorable Mention selection, grabbed 204 defensive rebounds out of 269 for the season. He also had 57 blocks on the season. He finished the season averaging 10.8 rebounds per game, along with 14.2 points per game.
Gwynedd Mercy University freshman guard
Rich Dunham (Norristown, Pa./Pope John Paul) was named as the CSAC Rookie of the Year. He has played in 24 games, starting one. He is averaging 6.3 points per game, while shooting 40 percent from the field.
Neumann University head coach
Jim Rullo was named as the CSAC Coach of the Year. He is the first Neumann head coach to win the award since Brian Nugent won the award back in 2002-03. In his fourth season as head coach, Rullo led the Knights to a school record 23 wins and is 82-31 in his career.
