CSAC announces FH End of Year Awards
ROSEMONT, Pa. - The Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) has announced its 2018 Field Hockey End of Year Awards. These awards include: first and second-team All-CSAC, All-Sportsmanship, Player of the Year, Defender of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year, and the 3-D Award. The student-athletes were selected to their respective squads by the conference's five head coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own players.
Keystone junior midfielder
Savanna Robinson was selected as the Player of the Year. Robinson, a first-team selection at midfielder, is the first player from Keystone to earn this honor in field hockey. This season, she has 13 points and 14 assists for a total of 40 points. Her 40 points and 14 assists lead the conference, while her 13 goals are second in the CSAC. She also leads the conference in shots with 101.
Cedar Crest junior defender
Alexx Miller was selected as the Defensive Player of the Year. Miller, a first-team selection at defender, is the first player from Cedar Crest to receive this honor. She helped lead a defensive unit that allowed just 1.60 goals per game on average and netted three shutout wins. Miller was an honorable mention selection last season and a second-team selection in 2016.
Cedar Crest freshman midfielder
Serena Shuler was named as the Rookie of the Year. She is the fourth Falcon to receive this award (Jessica Carter, 1999; McKenna Hunt, 2016; Annalise Unger, 2017). In 15 games this season, she has two goals and four assists for a total of eight points. She had a game-winning goal in a 4-0 win over Wells.
Cedar Crest coach
Amber Auchenbach was selected as Coach of the Year by her peers. She is the second coach from Cedar Crest in a row to receive this honor (Kellina Yarrish, 2017) and the third coach from Cedar Crest to win the honor, joining Yarrish and Marci Lippert (2009). She led the Falcons to the third seed in the upcoming playoffs, as the Falcons won six games and went 4-4 in the conference, all in her first year as coach at Cedar Crest.
Finally,
Notre Dame of Maryland University was selected by the coaches to receive the 3-D Award. Implemented for the 2011-12 academic year, the Colonial States Athletic Conference 3D Award replaced the CSAC Team Sportsmanship Award. The 3D Award recognizes the teams in each sport that best demonstrate the NCAA Division-III philosophy of "Discover, Develop, Dedicate." The 3D Award was conceived and developed by the CSAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). This marks the third time the Gators have won the award, capturing the honor in 2016 and 2013.
