CSAC Announces WSoc End of Year Awards
ROSEMONT, Pa. - The Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) has announced its 2018 Women's Soccer End of Year Awards. These awards include: first-team, second-team and honorable mention All-CSAC, All-Sportsmanship, Player of the Year, Defender of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year, and the 3-D Award. The student-athletes were selected to their respective squads by the conference's nine head coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own players.
Centenary University junior forward
Chloe Christopher was selected as the 2018 CSAC Player of Year. An honorable mention selection during her freshman year, she is the third player from Centenary to receive this honor (Emily Pizzuto, 2016; Brittany Overland, 2011). She leads the CSAC in points with 40 and goals with 16, while is tied for third in the conference in assists with eight. She has had five multi-goal games this season, including two times where she scored three goals (Brooklyn - 10/8; Clarks Summit - 10/25). She played in all 18 matches this season.
Centenary University junior defender
Sam Bombardiere was the coaches' pick as the Defensive Player of the Year. This marks the second time in the four year history of the award a Centenary player has won it (Emily Pizzuto, 2017). This season, Bombardiere led a defensive unit that did not allow a goal during CSAC play, and held opponents to just 1.3 goals per game on average during the season. She started in 18 matches for the Cyclones, who earned the number one seed in the CSAC playoffs.
Cairn University freshman defender
Victoria Ruitto was named as the CSAC Rookie of the Year. She is the first player from Cairn University to receive this honor. This season, Ruitto has seven goals and five points in 17 matches for 19 points. She has seven multi point games, including four of them in CSAC play. She was a first-team All-CSAC selection at defender this season.
Cedar Crest coach
Sarah Wolcott was selected as Coach of the Year by her peers. She is the first coach from Cedar Crest women's soccer to receive this honor. This season, Wolcott led the Falcons to a 12-3 record and a 7-1 mark in the CSAC, earning the second seed in the upcoming playoffs. Now in her sixth season, The 12 wins are the most by a Cedar Crest squad since the Falcons won ten matches back in 2004
Finally,
Cairn University was selected by the coaches to receive the 3-D Award. Implemented for the 2011-12 academic year, the Colonial States Athletic Conference 3D Award replaced the CSAC Team Sportsmanship Award. The 3D Award recognizes the teams in each sport that best demonstrate the NCAA Division-III philosophy of "Discover, Develop, Dedicate." The 3D Award was conceived and developed by the CSAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). This marks the seventh time in the eight year history of the award, that Cairn has been honored by their fellow teams. This is the sixth straight time they have won the award.
