CSAC Announces 2019 FH End of Year Awards
OSEMONT, Pa. - The Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) has announced its 2019 Field Hockey End of Year Awards. These awards include: first and second-team All-CSAC, All-Sportsmanship, Player of the Year, Defender of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year, and the 3-D Award. The student-athletes were selected to their respective squads by the conference's seven head coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own players.
Keystone College senior midfielder
Savanna Robinson was selected as the Player of the Year for the second straight season. Robinson leads the CSAC in several statistical categories, including shots (129), goals (24) and points (53). She set Keystone single season records for goals and points. Robinson is the third straight player to receive the honor in back-to-back seasons (Kerry Anne Farrell, Cabrini, 2014-15; Melissa Russo, Gwynedd Mercy 2016-17). She was a first-team All-CSAC selection the last two seasons.
Keystone senior defender
Daphne Leenas selected as the Defensive Player of the Year. She is the first Keystone player to receive the honor. Leenas is currently second in the CSAC in defensive saves with 11 and ranks among the leaders in Division III in that category. She led a defensive unit that allowed just one goal in CSAC play this season.
Centenary University freshman midfielder
Jordan Vandermark was named as the Rookie of the Year. In Centenary's first year as a varsity program, Vandermark led the Cyclones and ranked fifth in the CSAC in points with 22 and was tied for the team lead in goals at eight. She was also named first team all-conference at midfield.
The coaches' choice for Coach of the Year honors went to
Lancaster Bible College head coach
Becky Elliott who led the Chargers to a resurgent season in 2019. In its second year as a varsity progam and first as an associate member of the CSAC, LBC registered non-conference victories over Sweet Briar College and Wells College and earned its first conference win on Oct. 3, 5-1, over Bryn Athyn College. Elliott's squad scored 22 goals in 2019 and five of the Chargers' setbacks were decided by two goals or less. Elliott also mentored three all-conference performers.
Finally,
Lancaster Bible College was also selected by the coaches to receive the 3-D Award. Implemented for the 2011-12 academic year, the Colonial States Athletic Conference 3D Award replaced the CSAC Team Sportsmanship Award. The 3D Award recognizes the teams in each sport that best demonstrate the NCAA Division III philosophy of "Discover, Develop, Dedicate." The 3D Award was conceived and developed by the CSAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
