CSAC Announces 2019-2020 MBB End of Season Awards

ROSEMONT, Pa. - The Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) has announced its 2019-2020 men’s basketball end of season awards, as voted upon by the league’s eight head coaches. These awards include Player, Defensive and Rookie of the Year as well as Coach of the Year.

Centenary University junior guard Chris LaBelle (Hamilton, N.J./Trenton Catholic Academy) was named as the 2019-2020 CSAC Player of the Year. He is the first men’s basketball player from Centenary to win Player of the Year honors. A first-team All-CSAC selection, LaBelle led the conference in scoring at 22.3 points per game and was second in the conference in assists with 5.0. His 45 points against Clarks Summit back on January 7, was the highest point total by any CSAC player in a game this year. His 187 made foul shots and 168 made field goals per tops in the conference this season.

Defensive Player of the Year honors went to Cairn University senior guard Malachi Hall (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion). Hall, a first team All-CSAC selection, won the honor for the second straight season and is the first player in CSAC history to win the honor back-to-back since the award was instituted back during the 2016-17 season. Hall, this season, averaged 6.8 rebounds per game and 1.9 steals per contest. He had a season high 12 rebounds against Valley Forge back on January 22.

Rookie of the Year honors went to Centenary University freshman forward D’Angelo Blackmond (Orange, N.J./Orange). He is the second straight player from Centenary to win this honor, joining Billy Veras who won the award last season. This year, Blackmond averaged 11.5 points per game and 7.8 rebounds for the Cyclones, while shooting 53.2 percent from the field (75-of-141).

Coach of the Year honors went to Wilson College head coach Brian Zoeller. Zoeller led the Phoenix to a record of 10-15 overall and 7-7 in the CSAC, as the Phoenix earned the fourth seed in the upcoming playoffs. Wilson advanced to the semifinals last season, in its first year in the CSAC.

Finally, Clarks Summit University won the 2019-2020 3-D Award in men’s basketball. Implemented for the 2011-12 academic year, the Colonial States Athletic Conference 3D Award replaced the CSAC Team Sportsmanship Award. The 3D Award recognizes the teams in each sport that best demonstrate the NCAA Division-III philosophy of "Discover, Develop, Dedicate." The 3D Award was conceived and developed by the CSAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). This is the fifth time the Defenders have won the award.
