CSAC Announces 2019-2020 WBB End of Season Awards
ROSEMONT, Pa. - The Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) has announced its 2019-2020 women’s basketball end of season awards, as voted upon by the league’s ten head coaches. These awards include Player, Defensive and Rookie of the Year as well as Coach of the Year.
Keystone College sophomore guard
Bella Lamonea (Glendora, Calif./South Hills) was named as the CSAC Player of the Year. She is the first women’s basketball player from Keystone to receive this honor. This season, Lamonea ranks among the top three in the CSAC in several categories, including the leader three-point field goal percentage (39.3 percent), and is second in points per game at 21.3 and is third in overall field goal percentage at 50.0. She was a first-team All-CSAC selection.
Notre Dame of Maryland University sophomore forward
Daija Fitchett (Baltimore, Md./Towson) was named as the CSAC Defensive Player of the Year. Like Lamonea, she is the first player from Notre Dame to receive the honor. A second-team All-CSAC selection, Fitchett led the CSAC in blocked shots with 46, and was tied for the league lead in rebounds with 11.7 per game. She also averaged 11.8 points per game, and was fourth in field goal percentage at 49.8 percent.
Notre Dame of Maryland University freshman forward
Ayana Brim (Baltimore, Md./Mount Carmel) was named as the CSAC Rookie of the Year. Like the two previous award winners, she is the first player from Notre Dame of Maryland to receive the honor. Brim, a first-team All-CSAC selection, is second in the conference in field goal percentage at 53.3 percent. She ranked eighth in the conference in points per game at 14.8.
Keystone College head coach
Kristina Danella was named as the CSAC Coach of the Year by her peers. She is the first Keystone coach to win the honor in women’s basketball. In her second year, she led the Giants to a record of 19-6 and 17-1 in the CSAC, earning the top seed in the upcoming CSAC playoffs. Last season, she led the Giants to the CSAC title game.
Finally,
Clarks Summit University won the 2019-2020 3-D Award in women’s basketball. Implemented for the 2011-12 academic year, the Colonial States Athletic Conference 3D Award replaced the CSAC Team Sportsmanship Award. The 3D Award recognizes the teams in each sport that best demonstrate the NCAA Division-III philosophy of "Discover, Develop, Dedicate." The 3D Award was conceived and developed by the CSAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). This is the fourth time the Defenders have won the award.
