Top Seed Rosemont Wins Second Straight CSAC Men's Soccer Crown
ROSEMONT, Pa. – Top-seeded Rosemont College won its second straight Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Men’s Soccer Championship with a 2-1 victory over second-seeded Cairn University Saturday night.
Trailing 1-0 with less than 15-minutes to play in regulation, Rosemont’s Kevin Sousa notched the equalizing goal at the 77:05-mark off a feed from Clayton Crosse.
The game remained tied at 1-1 until the 85th-minute when the Raven’s Santi Possu, who earned tournament MVP honors, scored the game-winning goal off a feed from Matthew Pattison. The goal was Santiago-Possu’s 10th of the season. Cairn (9-5-5) was able to force a corner kick in the 87th-minute. However, the Highlanders were not able to get a shot off and Rosemont (10-2-5) was able to hang on for the win.
Rosemont held a decisive 30-6 shot advantage including a 20-3 edge in the second half. The Ravens also held an 8-2 margin in corner kicks.
With the win the Rosemont earns the league’s automatic bid to the 2022 NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship.
Notes: Rosemont wins the program’s second consecutive (2021-2022) and second overall league title. This year’s championship game marked the second straight year that Rosemont and Cairn played in the title game.
