CSAC Announces Weekly Award Winners for January 23, 2023

VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) has announced its Players of the Week for January 23, 2023. This includes Players of the Week in Men’s and Women’s Basketball as well as Honor Roll selections in each sport.

This week’s selections included contests from Monday, January 16 through Sunday, January 22. A total of 21 student-athletes were recognized for their performances.

Men’s Basketball
Offensive Player of the Week
Javen Flowers-Smith | Fy. | Keystone College | G | Atlanta, Ga./Pembroke Pines Charter HS
Flowers-Smith averaged a double-double for the week (27.5 points, 10 assists) with 4 steals per game and 4 rebounds per game while shooting 41% from both the field and behind the three-point arc.  This week had his eighth and ninth 20-point scoring games and the win on Wednesday vs. Cairn was Giants’ first win over the Highlanders in five years (January 20, 2018).  Currently, Flowers-Smith is 2nd in the CSAC in points per game (21.8), assists per game (5.5), and steals per game (2.3).
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Darryl Garib | Sr. | Wilson College | F | Dallas, Tx. /Forest Park HS
Garib averaged a double-double in leading Wilson to a perfect week. He started off with 13 points and nine rebounds in a win over Valley Forge and followed up with 20 points and 11 rebounds, his eighth double-double of the season.  Currently Garib is Top 5 in all CSAC rebounding categories (total offensive, total defensive, per game averages, total rebounds, rebounds per game).
 
Honor Roll
Bryn Athyn’s Jamal Cannady Jr. continues to lead the CSAC in scoring.  This week he averaged 20 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 1.5 steals including a 28-point game vs. Cairn…Cairn’s Kameron Clark averaged 15 points and 6.5 rebounds while picking up 3 blocks in a 1-1 week for the Highlanders…Clarks Summit’s Kelvin Chest averaged 13 points and 5 rebounds as the Defenders went 1-1 on the week…Keystone’s Daivel Jackson continued his stellar season averaging 22.5 points, 9 rebounds while shooting 77% from the field as the Giants went 1-1 on the week…Rosemont’s Zaire Mitchell led all scorers with a game-high 31 points, shooting 14-of-19 from the field vs. Keystone as the Ravens went 2-0 in CSAC play this week…Wilson’s Antonio Bussey averaged 16 points per game, 7 rebounds per game and shot 79% from the field as the Phoenix went 2-0 on the week…
 
 
 
Women’s Basketball
Offensive Player of the Week
Ashley Wilson | Sr. | Cedar Crest College | G | Norwalk, CT / Norwalk HS
Wilson joined the 1,000-point club on Saturday in a 26-point performance against Rosemont becoming the 11th player in Cedar Crest history to score 1,000 or more points for the Falcons.   This week Wilson averaged 28 points per game including a game-high 30 points vs. league-leaders Notre Dame (MD).  Currently, Wilson leads the CSAC in points per game (23.7) while being Top 10 in total points scored, free throws made, field-goal percentage, free-throw percentage, 3-pointers made, steals per game, total steals and blocked shots.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Alexis Durham | So. | Notre Dame of Maryland University | G | Plumas Lake, CA /Wheatland Union HS
Durham anchored a Gators defense that forced 62 turnovers in two games this past week to remain a perfect 10-0 in CSAC league play.  Durham picked up 6 steals vs. Cedar Crest and another 3 steals vs. Cairn.  Currently, Durham is 2nd in the CSAC with 54 steals in 18 games played while leading the CSAC in total assists (121) and assists per game (6.7).  Durham is also 2nd in all of NCAA Division III in assists.
 
Honor Roll
Bryn Athyn’s Kaylia Duncan helped the Lions to a 1-1 week with 10 steals and 10.5 points per game average while Kearah Henry averaged 10.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4 assists...Cairn’s Kailee Sobrino had a 30-point game vs. Keystone and 11 total assists on the week while Taylor Hinson averaged 16 points and 9 rebounds…Clark’s Summit’s Serene Calderon had 4 steals vs. Wilson and averaged 11.5 points and 8 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Defenders …Keystone’s Izzy Rosario picked up 8 steals over the week and had 12 rebounds against Cairn while Riley Berry averaged 17 points per game including 9 3-pointers in a 2-0 week for the Giants…Notre Dame (MD)’s Kori People averaged 22.5 points per game for the CSAC’s top scoring offense…Elizabeth’s Kolby Lynch averaged 12 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals in a 3-0 week, including a double-double vs. Bryn Athyn while Destiny Battle averaged 10 points, 7 assists, 8 rebounds and 4 steals including a double-double (11 points, 11 assists) vs. Clarks Summit...Wilson’s Samira Murphy averaged a double-double (10 points, 13 rebounds) for the Phoenix…
