CSAC Announces Weekly Award Winners for January 30, 2023

VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) has announced its Players of the Week for January 30, 2023. This includes Players of the Week in Men’s and Women’s Basketball as well as Honor Roll selections in each sport.

This week’s selections included contests from Monday, January 23 through Sunday, January 29. A total of 24 student-athletes were recognized for their performances.

Men’s Basketball
Offensive Player of the Week
Darryl Garib |Sr. | Wilson College | F | Dallas, Tx. /Forest Park HS

Last week's Defensive Player of the Week had a big week offensively as he averaged 27 points per game in a pair of wins. He opened with a 32-point performance and went 14-for-20 with a pair of 3-pointers against Bryn Athyn. He pulled down 16 rebounds, dished out four assists, and made three steals as well. He followed that up on Saturday with 22 points after going 9-for-15 from the field with five rebounds and two more steals.  Currently, Garib is Top 5 in the following Scoring categories – Points per Game, Total Points, Total Field Goals Made.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Kameron Clark | Gr. | Cairn University | F | Ewing, N.J./Ewing HS

Clark averaged a double-double in leading the Highlanders to a perfect 2-0 week in CSAC play.  Against Saint Elizabeth, Clark had 22 points and 12 rebounds with 2 blocked shots and followed up with 15 points and 17 rebounds, including 10 offensive boards, vs. Valley Forge on Saturday.  At the end of January, Clark leads the CSAC in all rebounding categories - rebounds per game (13.6), total rebounds (312), total offensive rebounds (124), offensive rebounds per game (5.4), total defensive rebounds (188), and defensive rebounds per game (8.2).
 
Honor Roll
Bryn Athyn’s Jamal Cannady Jr. averaged 25 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists on 62% shooting from the field (16-26), 100% from 3-point (4-4), and 88% from the free throw line (14-16)…Cairn’s Derian Bradford averaged 15.5 points per game and handed out 6 assists as the Highlanders went 2-0 on the week…Clarks Summit’s Ashton West averaged 25.5 points and 4.5 rebounds as the Defenders went 2-1 on the week including 2-0 in CSAC contests while Hunter Plantz averaged a double-double (12.5 points, 12.5 rebounds) in the CSAC contests…Keystone’s Daivel Jackson averaged a double-double for the week (14 points, 11 rebounds) while shooting 62.5% from the field (10-16) while Javen Flowers-Smith led the Giants with a team-high 9 steals this week, including five steals at Wilson on Saturday…Wilson’s Rick Godwin Jr. averaged 18 points per game and handed out 6 assists as the Phoenix went 2-0 on the week…


Women’s Basketball
Offensive Player of the Week
Ashlyn Messinger | FY. | Clarks Summit University | G/F | Fredericksburg, PA / Northern Lebanon HS

Messinger averaged 18 points and 4.5 rebounds to aid the Lady Defenders in their pair of conference wins last week. In the win on Saturday, Messinger led CSU with 24 points, going 9-14 from the field, 4-5 from the three-point line. The first year is Top 15 in all Scoring categories (points per game, total points, free throws made, 3-point field goals made, total field goals made) at the end of January.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Taylor Hinson | So. | Cairn University | F | Carney’s Point, N.J. /Collingswood HS

Hinson averaged a double-double (19 points, 12 rebounds) for the Highlanders this week.  Additionally, Hinson 4 steals and blocked 5 shots.  Currently, Hinson leads the CSAC in rebounds per game (10.6) while holding Top 5 status in Total Rebounds, Total Defensive Rebounds, Defensive Rebounds per game, and Blocked Shots.
 
Honor Roll
Bryn Athyn’s Norma Thornhill led the Lions to a 2-0 week with 14 points per game, 6.5 rebounds per game, 4 assists per game, and 3 steals per game…Cairn’s Kailee Sobrino played all 80 minutes in the Highlanders two games and had a game-high 18 points against Bryn Athyn…Cedar Crest’s Ashley Wilson set a new program record for steals in a career (160) while Jordan McGhee had a pair of double-digit scoring games for the Falcons and dished out 4 assists…Clarks Summit’s Mia McCormick shot 50% from 3-point (4-8) and had 7 steals over the week…Keystone’s Kwashanti Holmes averaged a double-double with 12 points per game and 11.5 rebounds per game while Kaitlyn Slaboda recorded a team-high five blocks this week…Notre Dame (MD)’s Alexis Durham averaged a double-double (17.5 points per game, 10 assists per game) and now leads all of NCAA Division III with 122 assists while Daija Fitchett collected her 1,000th career rebound and is now the 2nd player in program history with 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds…Saint Elizabeth’s Destiny Battle averaged 18.5 points per game over the Eagles’ two contests this week including a double-double (17 points, 14 rebounds) vs. Keystone while Kolby Lynch shot 50% (12-24) from the field and had 5 steals on the week…Wilson’s Yaya Cannon averaged 14.5 points per game, including a 19 point, 9-11 from the field performance vs. Valley Forge while Adrianna Stricek just missed a double-double (15 points per game, 9.5 rebounds per game) while shooting 72% from the field on the week…
