CSAC Announces Weekly Award Winners for February 13, 2023

VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) has announced its Players of the Week for February 6, 2023. This includes Players of the Week in Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, and Men’s Volleyball as well as Honor Roll selections in each sport.

This week’s selections included contests from Monday, February 6 through Sunday, February 12. A total of 32 student-athletes were recognized for their performances.

Men’s Basketball
Offensive Player of the Week
Javen Flowers-Smith | FY | Keystone College | G | Atlanta, Ga. / Pembroke Pines Charter
Flowers-Smith averaged 33.5 points per game, including a career-high 46 points at Bryn Athyn on Saturday. The first year shot 55.8% (24-for-43) from the field and 47.4% (9-for-19) from three and recorded 6 assists, 3 blocked shots, and 2 steals in two games this week.  With one week left in CSAC play, Flowers-Smith is 2nd in scoring average (22.9 points per game), 3-point field goals per game (2.5), assists per game (4.9) and 3rd in steals per game (2.4).
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Jaryn McCann | Sr. | Bryn Athyn College | F | Auburndale, Fl. / Auburndale HS
McCann led the Lions defense this week racking up 8 steals, 2 blocks, and logging two double doubles with a 12.5 rebound per game average. McCann averaged 16 points, 12.5 rebounds, 4 steals, and 1 block on the week. He currently ranks 2nd in steals (51) and steals per game (2.4), 5th in Total Rebounds (171), and rebounds per game (8.1), and 8th in blocks (22)  in the conference with one week to play.
 
Honor Roll
Bryn Athyn’s Jamal Cannady Jr. is just 6 points away from 1000 career points as a sophomore.  Against Keystone he had a double-double (22 points, 12 rebounds)…Cairn’s Kameron Clark had a double-double (20 points, 15 rebounds) in a big win vs. Keystone as the Highlanders continue to set the pace atop the CSAC standings while Derian Bradford had a double-double (20 points, 13 rebounds) in a win vs. Keystone and totaled 8 assists and 3 steals on the week…Clarks Summit’s Garrett Plantz averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds and totaled 5 blocks in CSAC play this week while Ashton West exploded for 30 points vs. Saint Elizabeth and picked up 4 steals…Keystone’s Jack Anderson averaged 16.5 points while tallying 9 assists, 4 steals, and 2 blocked shots in a 1-1 week…Saint Elizabeth’s Pierre Harden averaged 12.5 points and 8 rebounds including an 18-point, 3 blocks, 4 assists performance vs. Wilson while Syhid Daniels scored 18 points vs. Clarks Summit and shot 85% (11-for-13) from the free-throw line during the week…Wilson’s Antonio Bussey shot 78% (14-for-18) during the Phoenix 2-0 week including 16.5 points per game and totaling 6 blocked shots and 4 steals.  The Phoenix are currently No. 25 nationally in scoring defense and No. 12 nationally in rebound margin.  Darryl Garib averaged 23.5 points per game and picked up his 10th double-double of the season (18 points, 10 rebounds) vs. Valley Forge
 
 
Women’s Basketball
Offensive Player of the Week
Kori People | Jr. | Notre Dame University of Maryland | G | Washington D.C / Central HS (Howard CC)
Kori People hit six 3-pointers en route to scoring 33 points vs. Clarks Summit which is tied for the second most points in a game in program history.  People became NDMU's single season scoring leader having scored 420 points this season. The Gators now have 19 wins this season, which are the most in a single season in school history, passing the 2006-07 NDMU team that won 18 games.  For the week, People averaged 22 points per game, totaled 10 rebounds, 9 steals, 7 assists and 2 blocks as the Gators clinched the regular season championship. 
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Norma Thornhill | So. | Bryn Athyn College | G | Washington D.C. / Eleanor Roosevelt HS
Thornhill headed the Lions defense as they went 2-0 in CSAC play on the week.  Against Rosemont on Wednesday, Thornhill scored 19 points, 3 steals and only 1 turnover while playing 44 minutes in the OT thriller against the Ravens.  With one week to go in CSAC play, Thornhill is 10th in Steals per Game (2.5), and 12th in Total Steals (47) leading the Lions defense that is 18th in the country averaging 13.9 steals per game.
 
Honor Roll
Bryn Athyn’s Keerah Henry averaged 16 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals on the week including a 22 point, 4 steal, 4 rebound, 2 assist performance in a 69-65 OT win at Rosemont as the Lions went 2-0 on the week… Cairn’s Taylor Hinson averaged 20.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and tallied 5 blocks and 3 steals on the week while Tamia Warner averaged a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds on the week…Cedar Crest’s Haivynn Kovach had a season-high 18 points on 7-for-12 shooting vs. Saint Elizabeth and averaged 14 points on the week and picked off 8 steals while Ashley Wilson averaged 12.5 points and 5.5 rebounds over the week…Clarks Summit’s Ashlyn Messinger averaged 16 points per game in a 2-1 week in CSAC play while handing out 8 assists and grabbing 11 steals and shooting 81% (9-11) from the free throw line on the week …Keystone’s Kaitlyn Slaboda had 11 blocks on the week while averaging a double-double (11.5 points, 11.5 rebounds) while Kwashanti Holmes averaged 13.5 points, 9 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 3.5 steals per game including a career-high 18 points at Wilson on Wednesday …Notre Dame (MD)’s Daija Fitchett averaged a double-double (10 points, 13 rebounds) on the week and secured her 6th double-double of the season vs. Clarks Summit…Saint Elizabeth’s Destiny Battle nearly had a quadruple-double (27 points, 9 rebounds, 9 steals, 9 assists) vs. Wilson in the OT win while Kolby Lynch averaged a double-double (15 points, 11.5 rebounds) and picked up 8 steals in a 2-0 week in CSAC play…Wilson’s Samira Murphy averaged a double-double (12 points, 15 rebounds) as the Phoenix went 1-1 on the week while Laela Robinson averaged 14 points per game…
 
Men’s Volleyball
Offensive Player of the Week
Hunter Davis | Sr. | Lancaster Bible College | Middle Hitter | Holtwood, Pa. /  Penn Manor HS
Davis helped the Chargers beat Randolph-Macon, who was Receiving Votes in the latest national polls, as Lancaster Bible has raced out to a 6-3 record to begin the season.  Against the Yellow Jackets, Davis had 8 kills on 21 attempts swinging at a .238 hitting percentage and tied the Chargers single-game record of 11 blocks.  Early in the season, Davis leads the CSAC in hitting percentage (.433) and blocks (1.21 per set).
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Kobe Cash | So. | Cairn University | L | Yardley, Pa. / Calvary Christian Academy
Cash manned the back row with a match-high 10 digs as the Highlanders swept Brooklyn College on Saturday.  On Thursday, Cash had another 10 digs and picked up 3 assists in a win vs. Neumann.
