CSAC Announces Weekly Award Winners for April 18, 2023
VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) has announced its Players of the Week for April 18, 2023. This includes Players of the Week in Men’s & Women’s Outdoor Track & Field and Women’s Tennis as well as Honor Roll selections in each sport.
This week’s selections included contests from Monday, April 10 through Monday, April 17. A total of 8 student-athletes were recognized for their performances.
Men’s Track & Field
Track Athlete of the Week
Kody Klein | So. | Penn St.-Behrend | Distance | North East, Pa. / Cathedral Prep HS
Klein won two events on the day as Penn St.-Behrend hosted the 2023 Behrend Invitational. Klein placed first in the 3000m steeplechase setting a CSAC-leading time of 9:49.83 and qualified for the AARTFC meet. Additionally, Klein ran a leg on the winning 4x800 relay and placed third in the 400m (52.53; 6
th in CSAC).
Field Athlete of the Week
Samuel Hetrick | Jr. | Penn St.- Behrend | Multi | New Bethlehem, Pa. / Redbank Valley HS
Hetrick won two events on the day as Penn St.-Behrend hosted the 2023 Behrend Invitational. In the high jump, Hetrick set a new facility record with a mark of 2.08m. That mark also ranks #2 in NCAA Division III currently. Additionally, Hetrick won the 400m (51.40; 3
rd in CSAC). Last season, Hetrick was an All-American in the high jump at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, finishing eighth in the country.
Women’s Track & Field
Track Athlete of the Week
Maddy Kappeler | Jr. | Penn St.-Behrend | Multi | Cecil, Pa. / Canon-McMillan HS
Kappeler won four events at the 2023 Behrend Invitational. Kappeler started the day with two wins on the track; first, in the 100m (13.17; leads the CSAC with a 13.05 mark) followed by the 200m (27.11m; CSAC leader). Kappeler then won the pole vault with a CSAC-leading mark of 3.25m and finished with a win in the long jump (5.09m; 2
nd in CSAC). Kappeler is a two-time CSAC champion in the pole vault and won a CSAC championship last season in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays.
Field Athlete of the Week
Shannon Burns | So. | Penn St.-Behrend | Jumps | Jefferson, Oh. / Jefferson HS
The Lions competed in the 2023 Behrend Invitational where Burns won the high jump with a mark of 1.52m; a personal record and the 2
nd-best mark in the CSAC outdoor season. Burns also finished 2
nd in the long jump with a 6
th-best CSAC mark of 4.62m and 2
nd in the triple jump with a 5
th-best CSAC mark of 9.45m.

Sadie Trubilla took fourth place in the javelin at the Bill Butler Invitational with a PR throw of 32.69 meters…
Women’s Tennis
Athlete of the Week
Paige Kemper | Sr. | Cairn University | Lancaster, Pa. / Garden Spot HS
Kemper finished the week with a 4-0 record. In the match against Bryn Athyn, Kemper teamed up with Ersy Neal to win 8-1 in #1 doubles and then followed with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles. Kemper then picked up another pair of wins against Saint Elizabeth; 8-0 in No. 1 doubles and 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 singles. This is the third CSAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for Kemper (3/28/2022, 4/25/2022) for the 2022 CSAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Year and 2021 Co-Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year.
