Women’s Tennis Makes History, Punch Ticket to CSAC Championship With Win Over Falcons

Clarks Summit, PA – With a previous 7-2 win under their belt, the Clarks Summit University faced the Falcons of Cedar Crest College on Friday afternoon for the Colonial State Athletic Conference (CSAC) Semi-Final match-up. The Lady Defenders notched a 5-2 victory to improve their standing from the previous year, gaining them a spot in the 2023 CSAC Championships.
Highlights
- The match opened with tight doubles matches across the board. Naomi Sadowitz (Miyakonojo, Japan) and Katie McKee (Buffalo, NY) would earn the first win for the Lady Defenders, winning 8-7 in a tiebreaker set. Natasha Karp (Hidden Valley Lake, CA.) and Lydia DeLong (Lake Orion, Mi.) also claimed an 8-6 victory to give CSU a 2-1 edge going into the singles matches.
- Sadowitz picked up an easy 6-1,6-1 sweep of her opponent as the Lady Defenders began to see the championship match in their sights. Ksenya Larsen-Sorterup (Damariscotta, ME.) would drop the first set but would come from behind and dominate her opponent 6-2, 6-2.
- CSU would need one more win to solidify the victory, which would come from McKee, who would win another close set, 7-6 and 6-4, allowing for all other matches to halt. The Lady Defenders would come away with a 5-2 victory, punching their ticket to the CSAC Championship, a first for the program since joining the CSAC in 2008.

The Lady Defenders will travel for a chance at the CSAC Championship title on Saturday, April 29
th. CSU will face the Highlanders of Cairn University, the three-time reigning champions, at 2:00pm.
