CSAC Announces Baseball End-of-Year Awards for 2023

VILLANOVA, Pa. -  The Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) is proud to announce the 2023 All-CSAC Baseball team.  The team, composed of players from all seven CSAC institutions that sponsor baseball, was voted upon by the coaches in the league.

The team includes All-CSAC honorees as well as Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year, and All-Sportsmanship honorees.  The student-athletes were nominated by their coaches and voted upon by the conference’s seven head coaches who were not permitted to vote for their own players.

Player of the Year went to Wilson graduate student Mike Marrale (Sykesville, MD / Century HS). The catcher was all over the CSAC leaderboards at the plate, hitting .424, slugging .835, driving in 46 runs, scoring 54 runs, leading the CSAC with 19 doubles, and leading the CSAC with 14 home runs on the season.  The 19 doubles and 124 Total Bases are both 22nd nationally, while the 14 home runs are 29th nationally.  Defensively, Marrale had a .989 fielding percentage behind the plate while throwing out 8 would-be base stealers.

Pitcher of the Year went to Chris Baumann (Snow Hill, MD / Snow Hill HS) from Wilson.  The sophomore followed up his First-Team All-CSAC and Rookie of the Year honors in 2022 with another First-Team All-CSAC nod and a unanimous vote for Pitcher of the Year.  This season, Baumann led the CSAC in overall Wins (9), Innings Pitched (66.1 IP), and Strikeouts (75) while holding opponents to a .300 batting average (league Batting Average was .336).  Baumann finished the season with a 9-1 record with the only defeat coming to Keystone in the CSAC Championship game.  His 14 Games Started is second in NCAA Division III and 9 Wins is 17th in NCAA Division III.

Justin Mann (St. John’s, FL / Bartram Trail HS) from Keystone was named Rookie of the Year.  Mann had an impressive first season for the Giants hitting .441 (8th in CSAC), drawing 17 walks and driving in 17 runs in 32 games played.  Mann also led the CSAC in On-Base Percentage with a .553 average.  In conference play, Mann had a .605 On-Base Percentage and a .469 Batting Average.

Coach of the Year was awarded to Ross Trachtenberg from Rosemont College.  This is the first CSAC Coach of the Year honor for Trachtenberg, who is in his second season with the Ravens.  In just the second season of the program, Trachtenberg led the Ravens to a fifth-place finish in the CSAC and in contention for a playoff spot on the final day of the season.  Additionally, the Ravens had three student-athletes voted to the All-CSAC Second Team.
