(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – The season will continue for Wilson women's lacrosse team as it defeated Keystone in the CSAC Championship semifinals on Wednesday afternoon. It will be the second time the Phoenix will play for a title in three years.
The Basics
Score: No. 2 Wilson 17, No. 3 Keystone 1
Venue: Kris's Meadow
Records: No. 2 Wilson 12-4, No. 3 Keystone 4-8
How It Happened
- Despite the final score, it was actually the Giants who had the early advantage after they won the opening draw. After taking possession down to their offensive zone and drawing a foul by the Wilson defense, they were awarded a free-position attempt that was taken and scored by Lillian Kennedy-Butler 27 seconds into the game.
- The Phoenix defense went into lockdown mode and halted any offensive momentum the Giants tried to build for the rest of the game. The back line led by Kelly Lepouski (Sr., Millville, N.J. / Millville) limited Keystone to just five shots for the rest of the half. They didn't allow a single shot for the entirety of the second.
- On the opposite end the Phoenix attackers and midfielders went to work. Jill Ahlgren (Jr., Mercersburg, Pa. / Mercersburg) notched things up with a free-position goal of her own and Paige Reynolds (XXX) added the go-ahead goal on a feed from Marissa Eisenhauer (Jr., Denville, N.J. / Morris Knolls) just 25 seconds later. Reynolds added a second on a dish from Sage Lague (So., Fairplay, Md. / Goretti) for a 3-1 lead at the end of the first.
- The second quarter belonged completely to the Blue and White. Lague scored 25 seconds into the frame to start building numbers in one of her most impressive games of the season. Immediately after that, Lague won the draw and went down to assist Reynolds on her hat trick goal. After a yellow card on the Giants, Lague then assisted Emily Young (So., Fairfax, Va. / Chantilly) 29 seconds after that. Ahlgren, Young and Lague all scored goals later in the period to give Wilson a 9-1 lead at the break.
- Wilson completely dominated the second half and made sure the tone remained the same as Ahlgren scored 14 seconds into the third. Anna Gibson (Jr., Cecil County, Md. / Perryville) got on the board less than a minute later to put the Phoenix up 10. Ahlgren, Young and Lague all scored again to close out the third. Reynolds, Gibson and Lague followed with goals in the fourth to set up the final score.
Inside The Numbers
- Lague finished the day with seven points on four goals and three assists. She was busy on the start as well as she finished with five draw controls.
- Reynolds and Ahlgren also scored four goals for the Phoenix on eight shots each. For Reynolds, she added two assists for a career high six points. The four goals matched a career high set two other times this year.
- Young finished with five points with a hat trick.
- Defensively Ahlgren once again chalked tremendous numbers. She added to national leading total with seven caused turnovers. She added seven ground balls and nine draw controls for good measure.
- Lepouski had one of her best games of her career as she picked up a personal best four ground balls for the second consecutive game. She also caused three turnovers for the Phoenix.
- Krystal Kienast (Jr., Purcellville, N.Y. / ) recorded the win between the pipes for Wilson. While she wasn't called upon too much, she did make the save on the only other shot on goal the Giants had which came in the second quarter.
