Peterdozzi named First Team All-American;
Shaeffer named Third Team All-American
Salem, VA - 2004 PAC Player of the Year Brooke Peterdozzi (Sr, 2B, Spring City, PA/St. Pius X) of Cabrini was named first team All-American by the NFCA as announced at the Division III World Series banquet last night in Salem, VA. Arcadia's Maggie Schaeffer (Jr, C, Philadelphia, PA/Frankford) was named to the NFCA All-American third team.
Peterdozzi led the Cavaliers (34-13) to a fifth-straight PAC title and a fourth-place finish at the Division III Atlantic Regional in Salisbury, MD last week. She batted .470 with 71 hits, 16 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs and knocked in 47 runs with 32 runs scored and 2 stolen bases. At second base, Peterdozzi handled 178 chances with only five errors for a .966 fielding average.
Shaeffer led the Knights (29-12) to a third place finish in the PAC Tournament. She batted .454 with 59 hits, 21 doubles, 13 home runs and knocked in 64 runs with 41 runs scored and 5 stolen bases. From behind the plate, she handled 206 chances with only five errors for a .971 fielding average.

2004 PAC Pre-season Coaches' Poll

PAC Coaches Select Cabrini as Pre-Season Softball Favorite
Aston, PA - Cabrini College's softball team has been selected as the unanimous pre-season favorite in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) coaches poll. Cabrini, the four-time defending Conference Champion, received all 12 first-place votes for a total of 144 points.
College Misericordia, which has finished as the runner-up at the PAC Tournament each of the past five seasons, finished second in the poll, earning a total of 126 points. Arcadia University finished third in the poll, receiving 117 points.
"I am surprised, as I always am, with Cabrini being selected first," Cabrini head coach Karen Pelkey said. "With the PAC continuing to become stronger, defending the title is much more difficult of a challenge than ever before and I am honored that the PAC picked us to finish first.”
Wesley College (97), Immaculata University (81), Eastern University (77), Alvernia College (66), Marywood University (40), Cedar Crest College (36), Neumann College (31) and Rosemont College (18) rounded out the voting.
The PAC Championships will be held on April 28, and May 1-2, 2004.

March 8 - Cabrini College's Brooke Peterdozzi (Sr, 2B, Spring City, PA/St. Pius X) - Peterdozzi batted .536 with five doubles, three runs scored and a team-high 13 runs batted in, as the Lady Cavaliers started the season 6-2.
March 15 - Wesley College's Stefany Tiberi (Jr, P/U, New Castle, DE/William Penn) - Tiberi excelled both on the mound and at the plate for the Lady Wolverines, who went 5-3 on the week. Tiberi pitched 28.1 innings over the week, compiling a 3-1 record, while allowing just one earned run. She gave up just five hits and struck out 26 batters. Included in those numbers was a five-inning perfect game in Wesley's 14-0 win over Wheelock College on Wednesday. She also hit .346 on the week, with nine hits in 26 at-bats.
March 22 - Aston, PA - College Misericordia's Laura Mushinski (So, P/OF, Grantville, PA/Lower Dauphin) - Mushinski threw a shutout against Wesley College in her only appearance of the week. Mushinski went the distance, allowing just two hits while striking out six, as the Cougars defeated Wesley 7-0 in game two of Sunday's doubleheader.
March 29 - Rosemont College's Becky Crimian (Jr, SS, Warminster, PA/William Tennent) - Crimian batted .485 with five RBI, three runs, a double and a triple in a 3-3 week.
April 5 - Alvernia College's Carla Orris (Sr, 2B, Frackville, PA/North Schuylkill) -Orris batted .643 (9-14) with five runs, two doubles, two home runs and eight RBI in a 2-2 week.She was also named ECAC Division III Southern Player of the Week.
April 12 - Arcadia University's Jenn Compton (Fr, P/1B, Bensalem, PA/Bensalem) - Compton batted .667 (9-12) on the week with seven runs scored, four doubles, a home run, eight runs batted in and a stolen base, as Arcadia went 3-0.
April 19 - Cabrini College's Brooke Peterdozzi (Sr, 2B, Spring City, PA/St. Pius X) - Peterdozzi batted .619 (13-21) on the week with seven runs scored, two doubles, one triple, a grand slam and eight runs batted in, as Cabrini went 6-0 against league opposition on the week.
April 26 - Cabrini College's Angela Templin (Jr, P, Chester Springs, PA/Downingtown) - Templin finished the week 4-0 with one save and a 1.00 ERA, throwing three shutouts, as the Lady Cavs went 8-1 against PAC opposition. Templin threw 28 innings in her five appearances, allowing just four runs, while striking out 24 on the week.

2004 PAC Softball Tournament
Wednesday, April 28, 2004- First Round (Single Elimination)
Game #1: @ #3 Arcadia 5, #6 Wesley 1 (Wesley eliminated)
Glenside, PA - Third-seeded Arcadia defeated number-six seed Wesley, 5-1, in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference quarterfinals. Kristen Law got the win, throwing a complete-game four-hitter while striking out 10 with the only Wesley run coming in unearned. She is now 7-0 in her rookie campaign. Jenn Compton, Maggie Shaeffer and Dana Shay all had two hits and combined for four RBIs. Jenn Jackson had a double and an RBI.
The Knights got on the board with two outs in the bottom of the fourth. Shay doubled to center and Jackson scored her with an RBI double. Then in the fifth, Cindi Lukomski led off with a single and scored on a double by Compton. Shaeffer followed with another double to score Compton, moved to third on a fielder's choice and scored on a single by Shay. Arcadia added a run in the sixth when Compton reached on a two-base error and scored on a double by Shaeffer.
Wesley's (16-17) unearned run came in the sixth. Pitcher Stephanie Tiberi reached on an error, moved to second on a ground out and then to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a single by Sam Sanders. Tiberi pitched six innings, giving up four earned runs on 10 hits. Law got out of a bases loaded jam in the first by striking out the side and also struck out the side in the second.
The Knights (28-10 overall) will play in the semifinals against second-seeded Cabrini on Saturday, 5/1, at 10 a.m., at Misericordia, the regular-season champion. The remaining teams are now in a double elimination tournament with the champion being crowned on Sunday.
Game #2: @ #4 Eastern 6, #5 Neumann 5 (Neumann eliminated)
St. Davids, PA - It was going to be a first for one of these teams as neither Eastern University (18-17) or Neumann College (13-20) had ever advanced to the PAC Semi-finals in either program's history. With a 6-5, 7th inning, come-from-behind victory, the Eastern University Eagles have notched another milestone in their 2004 season as they advance on as one of the final four conference teams. All four top seeded teams advance to the PAC semi-finals as Arcadia also wins their play-in game over Wesley College. Eastern will travel to #1 College Misericordia (28-8, 21-1 PAC) for a double-elimination tournament Saturday, May 1st and Sunday, May 2nd.
The Eagles found themselves down 3-0 when they came to the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning, but got a base-clearing double from Nikki Plumbo to tie the game at 3-3 and then a double from Liane Christopher to drive home Nikki for the 4-3 lead. Neumann stood tall in the 7th and got a 2-RBI hit from Fran Boyle to regain the lead 5-4 on the home team.
In the bottom of the 7th, Abbey Gearheart led off for the Eagles with a single and then a shot off the fence from Ashlee Keyser made it first and third with no outs. Marcie Pentz then grounded out but advanced both runners to tie the game at 5-5. Neumann's pitcher Traci Reed walked the next two batters to load the bases for Eastern's Nikki Plumbo. Nikki popped out to the shortstop for the second out of the inning. With bases loaded, 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th, tied at 5-5, Reed fell behind in the count and walked home the winning run.
The win sends Eastern to their first PAC semi-finals appearance in program history. Eastern also sent a freshman to the mound in Laura Steenburg where she threw the complete, 7 inning game. Laura gave up 10 hits and four earned runs, and gets the biggest win of the year for the Eagles. Game time in Dallas, PA for game one of Eastern vs. College Misericordia is scheduled for 12pm.

Dallas, PA - College Misericordia won a pair of games on Saturday to advance to the championship round of the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference softball tournament. The Cougars (32-8) edged Eastern 2-1 in their opener of the double-elimation tournament at Anderson Field on the Misericordia campus. The Cougars defeated Cabrini 6-2 in the winners' bracket final. Cabrini has won the four previous PAC tournaments
The tournament continues at 9 a.m. today when Cabrini and Arcadia play in the losers' bracket final. The winner will play Misericordia at 11 a.m. in the championship game. If the Cougars lose, they'll get a second shot to win the title in a deciding game at 1 p.m.
The PAC champion gets an automatic bid in the NCAA Division III tournament. Misericordia will be seeking its first NCAA berth. The Cougars have won four PAC titles, the most recent in 1998, but there was no automatic bid to the Division III tournament in the years they won it. Misericordia has finished as runner-up in the PAC tournament the past five years. The Cougars wiped out a 1-0 deficit to win each game.
After Cabrini took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning in Misericordia's second game of the day, the Cougars answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Amber Lazorka walked to start the rally for the Cougars, and Kerri Buckman followed with a bunt single. Both later scored on a shot to right field by Tiffany Gray. Buckman, a Coughlin graduate, made an outstanding slide to avoid a tag at the plate.
Misericordia upped its lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the third. Buckman and Gray started the rally with singles, and Kirsten Lazorka and Laura Mushinski capped it with RBI singles. Amber Lazorka blasted a solo homer in the fourth and Jen Gehman added a solo shot in the sixth for the Cougars. Kristi Devens scattered eight hits and struck out five to earn the win.
In the opener against Eastern, Misericordia's comeback didn't come until the bottom of the sixth inning. The Cougars loaded the bases on singles by Amber Lazorka, Buckman and Gehman. Amber Lazorka raced home on a wild pitch, knotting the score. Buckman scored on a grounder by Gray, with Buckman making an outstanding slide to avoid a tag at the plate. Rachael Matthews then nailed down the win in the top of the seventh. She struck out four and allowed just three hits to earn the win. Gehman had three hits for the Cougars.

Dallas, PA - The Cabrini Cavaliers won three straight games Sunday to claim their fifth consecutive Pennsylvania Athletic Conference softball championship, Sunday at College Misericordia. After losing to Misericordia, 6-2, in the winner's bracket final yesterday, the Cavaliers rebounded to beat Arcadia, 5-2, and swept Misericordia, 2-1, 3-1.
Cabrini pitcher Angela Templin was named tournament MVP with a 3-1 record, including both wins over Misericordia on Sunday. Trailing 1-0 heading into the fifth inning of the final game, Cabrini's Jen Prenderville gave the Cavs a 2-1 lead with a two-run homer to left field. Amy Welch added an insurance run with a solo blast in the seventh. Templin got the win with 4.1 innings of relief of Welch.
Cabrini defeated Misericordia, 2-1, to force the decisive game. Templin tossed a three-hitter and Brooke Peterdozzi drove in two runs. Cabrini, 32-11, advances to the NCAA Division III Championships while Misericordia, 32-10, awaits an ECAC bid or NCAA at-large berth.

Game 5: #4 Cabrini (33-12) 8, #6 Mary Baldwin (21-19) 0
Cabrini scored three runs in the first and four more in the third inning as the Lady Cavaliers knocked off Mary Baldwin 8-0 in five innings. Eight different Cabrini players recorded hits in the game, with five players finishing the contest with multiple hits. Shortstop Jen Prenderville (1-for-2, RBI) and 2B Brooke Peterdozzi (2-for-3, 2 RBI) both had key doubles for the Lady Cavs.
Angela Templin (15-3) went the distance on the mound for the Lady Cavaliers (34-11) and recorded the win, throwing a three-hit shutout. She also struck out eight. Denise Michael (14-10) took the loss for the Fighting Squirrels (21-18). Jen Euganeo (2-for-3), Jen Taggart (2-for-4), Shannon Murphy (2-for-3, 2 RBI) and Mary Adam (2-for-3, RBI), had two hits apiece for Cabrini.
Game 8: #2 King's (39-9) 5, #4 Cabrini (34-13) 2
Second-seeded King’s eliminated Cabrini and advanced to Sunday’s semi-final contest with a 5-2 victory over #4-seed Cabrini. Sarah Genewski and Nikki Kotula combined for the victory. Genewski (18-5) worked five innings on the hill, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits while striking out one. Kotula pitched two hitless innings for her fourth save of the season.
Second baseman Kelley Vaxmonsky (2-for-4, 2B, 2R), 1B Maria Zangardi (2-for-4, 3 RBI, 2B, 1R) and catcher Kristen Brady (1-for-3, 2B, RBI) led the offensive attack for King’s (39-9). Templin (15-4) took the loss for Lady Cavaliers (34-12) on the hill. Brooke Peterdozzi led the Cabrini offensive with a 2-for-3 game. King's faces Rutgers-Camden at 12 noon Sunday in an elimination game. The winner faces Salisbury in the regional final at 2 pm.

Game 1: #4 Cabrini (33-11) 2, #5 McDaniel (27-10) 1
Junior SS Jen Prendeville had two hits and Cabrini scored single runs in the second and fifth innings to register a 2-1 victory over McDaniel. Jen Euganeo's RBI double scored Mary Adam with Cabrini's first run. The Cavaliers extended the lead to 2-0 in the fifth as Euganeo reached on an error, moved to second on a sacifice, advanced to third on a single by Prendeville, then scored on the second McDaniel error of the inning.
McDaniel nearly rallied in the top of the seventh. Samantha Abrams' RBI single scored Kim Camponelli with one out. Abrams moved to third and Lauren Cramer singled and moved to second with two outs before Heather Sinclair grounded out to second to end the game. Cabrini starter Angela Templin worked five innings and earned the win, improving to 14-3. Abrams (15-5) took the loss for McDaniel despite allowing just three hits in seven innings.
Game 3: #1 Salisbury (35-5) 3, #4 Cabrini (33-12) 0
Sophomore RHP Lacey Lister threw a three-hit shutout with a season-high 15 strikeouts to lead #2 ranked Salisbury to a 3-0 win over Cabrini. Lister improved to 26-1 on the year and tied her career-high strikeout total while finishing one strikeout short of the Salisbury single-game record.
Senior 1B Rosie Aley led the offense with two hits, including an RBI double that scored Nichole Fuqua with the game's first run in the opening inning. SU's Leslie White delivered a two-run single in the third to extend the Salisbury lead, with pinch-runner Jodie Lehrer and Serena Fleming scoring on the play.
Cabrini brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh inning, but Lister closed out the game with her 15th strikeout. Cabrini starter Amy Welch (10-3) worked three innings, allowing three runs on three hits and suffered the loss.

2004 ECAC Division III Southern Softball Championship

Dallas, PA - Tiffany Gray had two hits and drove in three runs to lead the College Misericordia softball team to a 6-2 win over Frostburg State in the opening round of the ECAC Southern Region championships, Wednesday at Anderson Field.
Gray singled in two runs in the bottom of the second to tie the score, 2-2, and added an RBI single in CM's four-run fifth inning rally. Kerri Buckman had a pair of hits for the Cougars while Amber and Kirsten Lazorka combined for three hits, two runs and two RBI. Rachael Matthews scattered six hittings to earn the complete game win.
Montclair grabbed a 2-0 lead with a bases loaded double in the top of the third inning. A perfect relay from Buckman to Amber Lazorka to Jen Gehman prevented a third run from scoring.The Cougars rallied to tie the score in the bottom of the inning when Barb Rexer singled and Amber Lazorka walked and Gray came through with a two-out single in the hole.
CM took control of the game with four runs in the fifth. Amber Lazorka doubled and advanced to third on Buckman's bunt single. Gehman reached on fielder's choice that scored Lazorka and Gray's single drove in Buckman. Kirsten Lazorka added a two-run double into left-center field. CM improves to 33-10 and will face Ursinus in a double-elimination tournament this weekend at Montclair State.

The College Misericordia softball team lost to Ursinus for the second time in two days at the ECAC Southern Region softball championships, Sunday at Montclair State. CM ends the season at 34-12.
Kirsten Lazorka gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead in the first inning with a two-run double. But, Ursinus rallied for three runs in the fifth. The Cougars split a pair of games, Saturday. After dropping a tough 1-0 decision to Ursinus in the opener, CM rallied for a 5-2 win over Pitt-Bradford.
Against Pitt-Bradford, the Cougars took a 2-1 lead in the third and added three uns in the fifth.
In the thid, Jess Klimas walked and Barb Rexer singled and both ruuners scored on Amber Lazorka's two-out double.
In the fifth, Rexer and Amber Lazorka singled and scored on Jen Gehman's single. After a Tiffany Gray single, Kirsten Lazorka drove in Gehman with a single. Kristi Devens scattered 10 hits to earn the win.
Against Ursinus, CM left the bases loaded in the sixth inning and had two runners on in the seventh, couldn't push across the tying run. Rachael Matthews was the tough-luck loser, allowing just six hits and one unearned run in the third inning. Amber Lazorka had three hits and Gehman added two.
