2006 PAC Softball Coaches Pre-Season Poll

PAC Coaches Select Misericordia as Pre-Season Favorite in Softball  

Aston , PA – Misericordia University’s softball team has been selected as the pre-season favorite in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) coaches’ poll. The defending champion Cougars received eight of the 12 first-place votes and a total of 128 points to finish ahead of Arcadia University.

Arcadia , the 2005 Conference runner-up, earned one first-place vote and 123 points to finish in second place in the poll. Cabrini College, PAC Champions from 2000-04, earned two first-place votes and a total of 111 points to finish in a tie for third with Neumann College, while Gwynedd-Mercy College earned the other first-place vote.

"We are honored to be picked to win the PAC,” Misericordia head coach Charlotte Slocum said. “It is our goal, but the league continues to improve every year, and we expect another exciting season.”

Eastern University
(104), Wesley College (82),Gwynedd-Mercy (69), Rosemont College (60), Alvernia College (54), Marywood University (40), Immaculata University (37)and Cedar Crest College (17) rounded out the voting.

2006 Softball Awards

CM's Lazorka Named Player of the Year,
Neumann's Sebasto, Saar Honored

Misericordia University shortstop Kirsten Lazorka has been named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Player of the Year while Neumann pitcher Angela Sebasto was named Rookieof the Year.

Neumann's Bill Saar earned Coach of the Year honors after leading the Knights to their first PAC championship.

2005-06 Softball Players of the Week

Arcadia University's Laura Fencik was named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Softball Player of the Week for the week ending April 30. Fencik hit .455 (10-for-22) with six home runs and 12 RBI in a 4-2 week. She also added six runs scored for the Knights.

Honor Roll
Angela Sebasto, Neumann (Fr, P, Trenton, NJ/McCorriston) – Hit .750 (9-for-12) with four runs scored, two doubles, two home runs and 13 RBI in a 4-0 week.

Cabrini College's Rachel Davis (Fr, P, Waterford Works, NJ/Overbrook Regional) and Neumann College's Angela Sebasto (Fr, P, Trenton, NJ/McCorriston) were named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Softball Co-Pitchers of the Week for the week ending April 30. Davis was 2-0 on the week, throwing a six-hitter to defeat Cedar Crest College, and a five-hit shutout to beat Gwynedd-Mercy College. Sebasto worked nine innings, allowing just one hit while striking out 14. Included in her totals was a five-inning no-hitter.

April 24, 2006

Player - Misericordia University’s Kirsten Peters (Fr, OF, Slatington, PA/ Northern Lehigh) was named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Softball Player of the Week for the week ending April 23.  Peters hit .714 with four doubles, five runs scored and nine RBI in an 8-0 week for the Lady Cougars.

Pitcher - Misericordia University’s Kristi Devens (Sr, P, Drums, PA/Bishop Hafey) was named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 23.   Devens was 4-0 with a 0.59 ERA, striking out 32 batters in 22 innings pitched.

April 17, 2006

Player - Arcadia University’s Laura Fencik was named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Softball Player of the Week for the week ending April 16.  Fencik hit .555 with a home run and seven RBI for the Lady Knights in a 3-1 week.

Pitcher - Misericordia University’s Molly Martin (So, P, Wilkes-Barre, PA/Coughlin) was named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 16.   Martin pitched a five inning no-hitter with four strikeouts in her only appearance of the week.

April 10, 2006

Player - Misericordia University’s Kirsten Lazorka (Sr, SS, Williamsport, PA/ Jersey Shore) was named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Softball Player of the Week for the week ending April 9.  Lazorka hit .750 (9-for-12) with four doubles, five runs scored and five RBI for the Lady Cougars, who won all three of their contests during the week.

Pitcher - Alvernia College’s Emily Williams (Fr, P, Minersville, PA/Nativity BVM) was named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 9.   Williams was 2-0 on the week with a 0.58 ERA, including a no-hitter.  She struck out 14 batters on the week.

April 3, 2006

Player - Cabrini College’s Caitlin McDevitt (Fr, SS, Barrington, NJ/Haddon Heights) was named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Softball Player of the Week for the week ending April 2. McDevitt hit .462 with two home runs, nine RBI and six runs scored as the Lady Cavaliers went 4-0 on the week.

Pitcher - Neumann College’s Angela Sebasto (Fr, P, Trenton, NJ/McCorriston) was named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 2. Sebasto was 2-0 with a 1.56 earned run average during the week. She struck out 14 batters in 18 innings pitched.

March 27, 2006

Player - Arcadia University’s Jenn Compton was named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Softball Player of the Week for the week ending March 26. Compton hit .444 with two home runs, three doubles, nine RBI and eight runs scored as Arcadia went 6-0 on the week.

Pitcher - Arcadia University’s Keirsten Hughes was named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 26. Hughes was 2-0 with one save and a 1.00 earned run average during the week.

March 20, 2006

Player - Neumann College’s Kim Zlupko (Jr, SS, Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) was named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Softball Player of the Week for the week ending March 19. Zlupko hit .500 with four doubles and seven runs scored as Neumann went unbeaten in four contests.

Pitcher - Neumann College’s Angela Sebasto (Fr, P, Trenton, NJ/McCorristin) was named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 19. Sebasto was 2-0 with a 0.54 earned run average during the week, striking out 16 batters in 13 innings pitched.

March 13, 2006

Player - Wesley College’s Jessica Morgan (So, IF, New Castle, DE/St. Mark’s) was named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Softball Player of the Week for the week ending March 12. Morgan hit .571 with three doubles, three triples, three home runs and 13 RBI as the Lady Wolverines started the season 3-5.

Pitcher - Neumann College’s Kelli Ann Meehan (So, P, Springfield, PA/Cardinal O’Hara) was named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 12. Meehan was 4-0 with a 0.64 earned run average during the week, striking out 32 batters in 22 innings pitched.
