Aston, Pa. – Cabrini College’s women’s lacrosse team has been selected as the pre-season favorite in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) coaches’ poll. The 2008 conference runner-up, the Cavaliers received seven of eight possible first-place votes for a total of 63 points to finish ahead of Gwynedd-Mercy College.
“It is an honor to be selected as the pre-season favorite by the head coaches in the Colonial States Athletic Conference,” said Cabrini College Head Coach Jackie Neary. “We look forward to having a great 2009 season.”
Under Neary, the Cavaliers have made appearances in the conference championship game for twelve consecutive seasons, winning eight straight conference titles between 1998 and 2005. Since the start of the program in 1997, the Cavaliers have suffered only four losses in conference play and enter the 2009 season with a 106-4 record against conference opponents.
Gwynedd-Mercy College earned a total of 52 points to finish in second place in the poll. Neumann College was selected third with 42 points.
College of Notre Dame (39), Centenary College (35), Marywood University (23), Immaculata University (19) and Cedar Crest College (15) round out the voting.
The 2009 CSAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship begins with semifinal action on Wednesday, April 29th. The CSAC Championship Game is set for Saturday, May 2nd.
