2008-2009 Men's Basketball Pre-Season Coaches' Poll
Aston, Pa. – Gwynedd-Mercy College’s Men’s Basketball team has been selected as the pre-season favorite in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) coaches’ poll. The 2007-08 conference runner-up received all nine possible first-place votes, earning 81 points in the poll.
"Our program is honored to be selected the CSAC's 1st ever pre-season men's basketball favorite. With a new league name, new teams, and new coaches, we expect it to be an exciting basketball year for all 9 teams,” said Gwynedd-Mercy head coach, John Baron. “Although the honor is flattering, we definitely realize that is not where you start but where you finish that counts, and our team and staff will continue to work hard in hopes to achieve our goals."
Defending conference champion, Immaculata University, came in second with 69 points. Neumann College was selected to finish third, earning 60 points. Cabrini College (48), Marywood University (38), Baptist Bible College (36), Centenary College (29), Keystone College (28), and Philadelphia Biblical University (16) rounded out the voting.

Player of the Week
Immaculata University’s Kyle Finklea (Sr., Guard, Sharon Hill, Pa. / Penn Wood) was named the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending February 23rd. Finklea averaged 29 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steal per game, leading the team in scoring and rebounding in both contests during the final week of the regular season. Finklea tied the program record for points in a single game with 34 points against Cabrini College, adding 10 rebounds to complete the double-double as the Mighty Macs went 0-2 in conference play for the week.

Andrew Baker, Centenary College (Sr., Center, Sparta, N.J. / Sparta) averaged 22.5 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists and 3.5 blocks per game, shooting 61 percent from the floor and 71 percent from the charity stripe as the Cyclones went 2-0 against CSAC opponents, clinching the sixth and final seed in the conference playoffs.
Kevin Misevicius, Cabrini College (Jr., Forward, Allentown, Pa. / Emmaus) averaged 22.5 points, 8 rebounds, two assists and 2.5 steals per game, going 7-for-7 from the foul line and shooting 58 percent from the floor as the Cavaliers finished the regular season with a 2-0 week against CSAC opponents and clinching a first round bye in the conference playoffs.

Cabrini College’s Kevin Misevicius (Jr., Forward, Allentown, Pa. / Emmaus) was named the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending February 15th. Misevicius averaged 21.7 points, seven rebounds, five steals and 2.3 blocks per game, recording a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds in a loss to Centenary College. Misevicius shot 55 percent from the floor and 93 percent from the charity stripe, leading the Cavaliers to a 2-1 (1-1 CSAC) week.

Marywood University’s Sidney Tharpe (Jr., Guard, Victorville, Calif. / Silver Valley) was named the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending February 8th. Tharpe averaged 27.3 points, 9 rebounds and two steals per game, including a game-high 31 points in the team’s upset win over Gwynedd-Mercy College. Tharpe shot 36% from the three point line and helped the team establish a new program record for wins in a season with 14, as the Pacers went 3-0 in conference play for the week.

Ryan Kearney, Centenary College (Jr., Forward, North Arlington, N.J. / Queen of Peace) led the Cyclones to a 2-2 (2-1 CSAC) week, averaging 17.5 points, 8.25 rebounds, 1.75 assists, two steals and 1.25 blocks per game, and shooting 69% from the three point line.
Dave Smith, Gwynedd-Mercy College (Sr., Forward, Cape May Court House, N.J. / Middle Twp.) averaged 22.3 points, 11.7 rebounds and 3.3 blocks per game, making 78% of his shots from the floor and 55% from the charity stripe as the Griffins went 0-3 in the CSAC this week.

Gwynedd-Mercy College’s Dave Smith (Sr., Forward, Cape May Court House, N.J. / Middle Twp.) was named the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending February 1st. Smith notched double-doubles in three games this week, averaging 17 points, 13.3 rebounds, 1 assist and 4.3 blocks for the Griffins, including a career-high 17 rebounds in the team’s win over Immaculata. Hitting more than 70 percent of his shots from the floor, Smith led the Griffins to a 3-0 week in CSAC play, bringing the team to 8-0 in conference play for the season so far.

Blacknall averaged 27.5 point, 3.5 rebounds, 8.5 assists and 2.5 steals for the week, including 28 points in a win over Baptist Bible and 27 points in a loss to Neumann. Hitting 7-of-12 three point shots and shooting 55.5 percent from the floor, Blacknall led the Pacers to a 1-1 week in conference play.

Finklea averaged 21.3 points, 2.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.8 steals for the week, including 26 points against Centenary and 20 points at Keystone. Hitting 9-of-14 three point shots and shooting 51.5 percent from the floor, Finklea led the Mighty Macs to a 2-2 (2-1 CSAC) week.

Cabrini College’s Glenn Washington (Soph., Guard, Wayne, Pa. / Radnor) was named the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending January 4th. Washington captured MVP honors at the Marymount University Comcast Challenge, leading the Cavaliers to a 2-0 week in non-conference play. Averaging 21.5 points, three rebounds, 2.5 assists and one steal per game, Washington went 13-for-24 from the 3-point line and ended the week with a .536 shooting percentage.

Shooting 64 percent from the floor, Blacknall helped the Pacers go 1-0 (0-0 CSAC) for the week.

Johnson led his team to a 2-0 week in non-conference play, averaging 20 points, 5.5 rebounds, four assists and 1.5 steals per game. Johnson netted a career-high 23 points in the Griffin’s win at Widener and followed with a 17 point show in a 101-76 victory over Rutgers-Camden.

Taylor led his team to a 1-1 week in conference play, averaging 23.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and four steals per game. Taylor netted a game high 26 points in the Giants loss to Cabrini and followed with a 21-point outing in the team’s win over Centenary.

Glenn Washington, Cabrini College (So., Guard, Wayne, Pa. / Radnor) tallied 17 points in a win over Keystone and scored a game high 26 points, including six three-point shots, in the Cavaliers 101-92 loss to Lebanon Valley College.
Eli Hitchens, Neumann College (Sr., Forward, Abington, Pa. / Abington) averaged 16.7 points, 9 rebounds, and 1.67 assists per game, helped by a game-high 30 points in the Knights 89-81 loss to Baptist Bible.

Cabrini College’s Kevin Misevicius (Jr., Forward, Allentown, Pa. / Emmaus) was named the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending November 30th. Misevicius led the Cavaliers to a perfect 2-0 week in non-conference play, averaging 20 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 4.5 steals per game. Misevicius recorded a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds against Penn State-Berks, and tallied 17 points in just 17 minutes against Waynesburg.

Rob Urie, Centenary College (So., Guard, Ortley Beach, NJ / Tom’s River) was the high-scorer in the Cyclones only contest of the week, tallying 29 points, 4-of-5 three pointers, 7 assists and four rebounds against Penn State-Harrisburg.
Mike Walukiewicz, Neumann College (Fr., Guard, Elmer, NJ / Cumberland Regional) recorded 22 points, four rebounds, one assist, one block and five three-point shots in the Knights only game of the week, shooting .500 in the team’s loss to Elizabethtown College.

Marywood University’s Prince Blacknall (Sr., Guard, Stroudsburg, Pa. / Stroudsburg) was named the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending November 23rd. Blacknall scored a game-high 28 points in the Pacers’ 61-58 win over Misericordia in the championship game of the Laurel Line Tournament. Blacknall, named the tournament MVP, was 7-for-7 from the free throw line, sinking two with 12 seconds left in the championship game. He averaged 18.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, four assists and one steal per game.

Cabrini College’s Glenn Washington (So., Guard, Radnor, Pa. / Radnor) was named the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending November 16th. Washington scored 27 points in the Cavaliers’ overtime win over the United States Merchant Marine Academy at the Palestra. In the 85-82 victory, Washington recorded seven rebounds, four assists, three steals and seven 3-point shots.
