2009 Baseball Pre-Season Coaches' Poll

CSAC Coaches Select Griffins as Baseball Pre-Season Favorite

Aston, Pa. – Gwynedd-Mercy College’s Baseball team has been selected as the pre-season favorite in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) coaches’ poll. The 2008 conference champion received three of six possible first place votes for a total of 32 points, finishing ahead of Keystone College by virtue of a tiebreaker.

“We are honored to have been chosen by the coaches as the pre-season favorite in the conference. Our seniors have been to the NCAA tournament three years in a row and will try to continue their success in 2009,” said Griffins’ Head Coach, Paul Murphy. “However, it is a new conference this year and we know there are some very good teams in the CSAC and it will be as tough as ever to win the championship this year.”

The Griffins have won the conference championship four times, in 2000, 2001, 2007 and 2008, and were the runner-up in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006.

Keystone College also earned a total of 32 points but received fewer first place votes to finish second. Centenary College was selected third with 25 points.

Marywood University (16), Neumann College (14) and Philadelphia Biblical University (7) rounded out the voting.

The 2009 CSAC Baseball Championship will feature the top four teams in the conference and will begin with preliminary rounds on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at the #1 and #2 seeds. The championship will conclude at Bear Stadium in Boyertown, Pa. on Friday and Saturday, May 8 and 9, 2009.
