CSAC Coaches Select Cavaliers as Golf Pre-Season Favorite
Aston, Pa. – Cabrini College’s golf team has been selected as the pre-season favorite in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) coaches’ poll. The 2008 conference champions received four of eight possible first-place votes for a total of 56 points to finish ahead of Neumann College.
"Being selected as the preseason favorite is an honor and something we will value heading into the 2009 season," said head coach Tony Verde. "We look forward to proving ourselves as the league's top team and defending our title from last season."
Under Verde’s tutelage, the Cavaliers have been transformed from a team that regularly finished in the bottom half of the conference to a golf powerhouse. Entering the 2009 season, the Cavaliers have been ranked third in the mid-Atlantic region by GolfStat.com. In 2008, the team made its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Championship, finishing 30th overall.
Neumann College earned a total of 44 points to finish in second place in the poll. Keystone College and Immaculata University tied for third with 40 points.
Philadelphia Biblical University (35), Centenary College (32), Gwynedd-Mercy College (23) and Baptist Bible College (18) round out the voting.
The 2009 CSAC Golf Championship is set for Saturday and Sunday, April 25 & 26, 2009 and will be held at Inniscrone Golf Course in Avondale, Pa.
