Knights, Pacers Softball Players Named to 2009 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III All-Region Teams

Aston, Pa. – Three Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Softball players were honored by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) for their outstanding performance on the diamond this season. Marywood University’s Erika Cook and Neumann University’s Angela Sebasto and Jennifer Goslin were named to the Second and Third All-East Region Teams.
Marywood University senior Erika Cook (Wyalusing, Pa. / Wyalusing Valley) was named to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-East Region Second Team. Cook did not commit an error during 2009, leading the Pacers to a school-record 27 wins in her senior year while establishing several new career records from 2006-2009, including highest batting average (.435), games played (146), runs scored (153), hits (218), doubles (45) and triples (19).
Neumann University senior Angela Sebasto (Sr., Trenton, N.J. / McCorriston) was named to the All-East Region Second Team as a utility player, capping off a season in which she earned her second consecutive CSAC Player of the Year award as well as first team all-conference. Sebasto is 18-3 overall this season with a 1.58 ERA. In 128.1 innings pitched, the senior has struck out 182 batters. She also has two perfect games this season.
Neumann University junior Jennifer Goslin (Jr., Coatesville, Pa. / Coatesville) was named to the All-East Region Third Team as an at-large selection. Having started 38 games this season, Goslin ended the season with a .361 batting average with 35 hits in 97 at-bats. The first-baseman leads the conference in home runs (11), RBI (32) and is second in slugging percentage (.735). Goslin has six doubles, has a .472 on-base percentage and boasts a .667 batting average with the bases loaded.

2009 Softball Pre-Season Coaches' Poll
Knights Picked to Finish First in CSAC Coaches’ Poll
Aston, Pa. – Neumann College’s Softball team has been selected as the pre-season favorite in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) coaches’ poll. The 2008 conference champion received nine of twelve possible first-place votes for a total of 139 points, finishing ahead of Gwynedd-Mercy College.
"We are honored to have been chosen by the coaches as the pre-season favorite,” said Head Coach Bill Saar. “We are excited to have the opportunity to defend our 2008 conference title and play for the first Colonial States Athletic Conference championship."
Under Saar’s guidance, Knights Softball made program history in 2008 when the team earned its first victory ever in the NCAA Regional Tournament.
Gwynedd-Mercy College earned a total of 130 points and the remaining three first-place votes to finish second in the poll. Marywood University was selected third with 118 points and Cabrini College rounded out the top four with 107 points.
Centenary College (87), Cedar Crest College (84), Immaculata University (62), Philadelphia Biblical University (61), Baptist Bible College (56), Keystone College (50), College of Notre Dame (26) and Rosemont College (16) rounded out the voting.
The 2009 CSAC Softball Championship will feature the top six teams in the conference and will begin with single elimination, first round action on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at the #3 and #4 seeds. The Championship Finals will take place at the number one seed on Saturday and Sunday, May 2 and 3, 2009.

Player of the Week
Centenary College’s Megan Dunne (Jr., OF, Frenchtown, N.J. / Delaware Valley Regional) was named the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Softball Player of the Week for the week ending May 3rd. Dunne batted .286 in seven at-bats, tallying two runs on two hits, with one double and one RBI. With a slugging percentage of .429 and an on-base percentage of .286, Dunne led the Cyclones to a 2-0 week in non-conference play.
Pitcher of the Week
Centenary College’s Kristin Duburow (Soph., Pitcher, Manahawkin, N.J. / Southern Regional) was named the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending May 3rd. Olsen pitched a complete game against Drew, striking out four, holding opponents to a .172 batting average and giving up only one earned run in the Cyclone’s 2-1 victory.

Cabrini College’s Kristie Sandefur (Sr., 3B, Philadelphia, Pa. / Neumann-Goretti) was named the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Softball Player of the Week for the week ending April 26th. Sandefur hit .478 in 23 at-bats, tallying eight runs on 11 hits, with three doubles, one triple, three home runs and 10 RBI. With a team-best slugging percentage of 1.087, Sandefur led the Cavaliers to a 6-0 week in conference play.

Sarah Campbell, Cedar Crest College (Sr., CF, Plainfield, Ill. / Easton), hit .476 in 21 at-bats, notching nine runs on ten hits, with two doubles, three home runs and 12 RBI, ending the week with a .733 slugging percentage and a .461 on-base percentage as the Falcons went 2-4 in conference play.
Michelle Bissell, Gwynedd-Mercy College (Sr., SS, Folsom, Pa. / Academy Park), hit .450 in 20 at-bats, notching seven runs on nine hits, with three doubles, one triple, one home run and 9 RBI, ending the week with a .850 slugging percentage and leading the Griffins to a 5-1 week in conference play.

Centenary College’s Sarah Olsen (Soph., Pitcher, Lake Hopatcong, N.J. / Pope John XXIII) was named the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 26th. Olsen appeared in five games this week, throwing three complete games, including two shutouts, pitching 29 innings and striking out 27. Olsen held opponents to a .157 batting average while leading the Cyclones to a 4-2 week in conference play.

Marywood University’s Erika Cook (Sr., 2B, Wyalusing, Pa. / Wyalusing Valley) was named the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Softball Player of the Week for the week ending April 19th. Cook hit .500 in 26 at-bats, tallying 13 runs on 13 hits, two doubles, four triples, one home run and two RBI. Cook reached the 200-career hit milestone, finishing the week with a 1.000 slugging percentage, a .897 on-base percentage, five stolen bases in five attempts, 19 putouts and 13 assists, and leading the Pacers to a 7-1 (5-1 CSAC) record for the week.

Kimberly Kirkpatrick, Neumann College (Soph., SS, Springfield, Pa. / Springfield), hit .444 in 18 at-bats, notching five runs on eight hits, one double, one triple, two home runs and eight RBI, ending the week with .944 slugging and .444 on-base percentages as the Knights went 6-0 in CSAC play for the week.

Cedar Crest College’s Allison Holland (Sr., Pitcher, Mercersburg, Pa. / James Buchanan) was named the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 19th. Holland threw six complete games, including two shutouts, pitching 36 innings, striking out 56 and holding opponents to a .191 batting average. Ending the week with a 1.70 ERA, Holland led the Falcons to a 4-2 (2-2 CSAC) record for the week.

Zimmerman hit .727 in 11 at-bats, notching five runs on eight hits, three doubles and one triple, and bringing in seven RBI. Zimmerman finished the week with a 1.181 slugging percentage, a .785 slugging percentage, 12 put-outs and four assists as the Ramblers went 0-4 (0-2 CSAC) for the week.

Cook hit .426, with 12 hits, 10 runs, three doubles, three triples and four RBI. Cook had a .808 slugging percentage, a .857 on-base percentage and a perfect fielding percentage, went 4-for-5 in stolen bases and recorded 16 putouts and 16 assists, leading the Pacers to a 6-2 week in conference play.

Jennifer Goslin, Neumann College (Jr., 1B, Coatesville, Pa. / Coatesville) hit .636 in 11 at-bats, notching four runs on seven hits, one double, three home runs, seven RBI, a 1.545 slugging percentage and 22 putouts as the Knights went 5-1 (4-0 CSAC) for the week.

Sebasto pitched a perfect game in a victory over Keystone College and ended the week with 21 strikeouts and a .054 opponents’ batting average. Her performance on the mound led the Knights to a 5-1 (4-0 CSAC) week.

Allison Holland, Cedar Crest College (Sr., Pitcher, Mercersburg, Pa. / James Buchanan) struck out 30 and allowing five runs in four games, including back-to-back shutouts of Rosemont College, as the Falcons went 3-1 in conference play for the week.

Veres hit .500 for the week, with three hits, five runs, one double, two triples and three RBI for the Cylcones, helping them go 2-0 in CSAC play for the week. Veres had a 1.333 slugging percentage and a .967 fielding percentage, went 2-for-2 in stolen bases and tallied 27 putouts for the week.

Centenary College’s Sarah Olsen (Soph., Pitcher, Lake Hopatcong, N.J. / Pope John XXIII) was named the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 15th. Olsen pitched a complete game no-hitter in the Cyclones’ victory over College of Notre Dame, striking out 14 in five innings and allowing zero runs, helping the team to a 2-0 week in CSAC play.

Sebasto had a .750 slugging percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.
Pitcher of the Week
