ROSEMONT, Pa. – Centenary University junior guard
Chris LaBelle was named as the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Player of the Week on Monday afternoon by the conference office. There was no Defensive Player of the Week awarded.
LaBelle, who won the award for the second straight week, averaged 35.3 points, 8.0 rebounds and 7.7 assists per game while leading the Cyclones to three wins and keeping Centenary unbeaten in conference play. The junior guard set three school single-game records and recorded a double-double and a triple-double last week. He shot 50 percent from the field and 80.8 percent from the free throw line.
LaBelle started his week with a career-high and school single-game record 45 points and ten rebounds in the overtime win at Clarks Summit. LaBelle became the third player in program history to score at least 40 points in a game, which ranked him seventh in most by a Division III player in a game this season.
In the Clarks Summit game, LaBelle went 18-for-22 from the foul line, which set the school single-game record for free throws made. It’s also tied for the most free throws made by a Division III player in a game this season.
On Thursday in the win against Keystone, LaBelle posted his first career triple-double in the game. It was the 13th time this season a Division III player has posted a triple-double. The junior guard finished with 33 points, ten rebounds and 12 assists in the contest. It was the sixth time this season LaBelle has scored 30 or more points in a game. He also set the school record for single-game assists in the process.
In Saturday’s overtime win at Cairn, LaBelle finished with 28 points and eight assists for the Cyclones. He scored the game-tying basket with six seconds to play in regulation which sent the game to overtime. LaBelle also scored six of the team’s 16 points in overtime to secure the win.
